Step 1: Start with the Listing Fee
Every item listed on Etsy incurs a $0.20 listing fee. This is charged when you create a listing and when it renews (every 4 months). If you sell multiple quantities, you pay $0.20 for each unit sold.
Formula: Listing Fee = $0.20 ร Number of Items Sold
Step 2: Calculate the Transaction Fee (6.5%)
Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee on the total sale amount, which includes both the item price AND shipping cost. This is the largest single fee for most sellers.
Formula: Transaction Fee = (Sale Price + Shipping Cost) ร 0.065
Example: For a $25 item with $5 shipping: ($25 + $5) ร 0.065 = $1.95
Step 3: Calculate Payment Processing Fee
When buyers pay through Etsy Payments, you're charged a payment processing fee. This varies by country:
- United States: 3% + $0.25
- United Kingdom: 4% + ยฃ0.20
- Canada: 3% + C$0.25
- Australia: 3% + A$0.25
Formula (US): Processing Fee = (Sale Price + Shipping) ร 0.03 + $0.25
Step 4: Add Optional Fees
Offsite Ads Fee (12% or 15%)
If a buyer clicks an Etsy offsite ad and purchases within 30 days, you pay an additional fee: 15% for sellers under $10,000/yr, or 12% for sellers over $10,000/yr.
UK Regulatory Fee (0.25%)
UK sellers pay an additional 0.25% regulatory operating fee on the item price plus shipping.
Step 5: Calculate Your Total Fees
Total Fees = Listing Fee + Transaction Fee + Processing Fee + Offsite Ads Fee (if applicable) + Regulatory Fee (if UK)
Step 6: Calculate Your Profit
Net Revenue = Sale Price - Total Fees
Profit = Net Revenue - Cost of Goods Sold
Profit Margin = (Profit รท Sale Price) ร 100%
